How Snap Ties Work

Understanding the role of snap ties in concrete forming.

1. Spacing

Snap ties are inserted through holes drilled in the formwork panels. The plastic cones set the wall dimension, ensuring uniform thickness throughout the pour.

2. Securing

Tie plates or wedges are attached to the exposed ends of the snap tie, distributing the load across the formwork and preventing bowing under concrete pressure.

3. Break-Back

After the concrete cures, the formwork is stripped and the exposed snap tie ends are twisted off at the cone. This leaves a clean 1" recess for patching.
